Big six margin now £40 on £1,310 annual bill, says Ofgem

Big Six energy companies currently make an average margin of £40 each year for a typical standard tariff, dual fuel customer, according to Ofgem's regular calculations.

The regulator said that profit margin, on an average annual bill of £1,310, was at a similar level to its last estimate in July.

The regulator said it anticipated that “snapshot” margins would rise to around £50 in the next three months as wholesale fuel prices were falling, but when averaged over the year to June 2013 it estimated margin would be £30 per dual-fuel customer.
