First Utility names new chairman

First Utility has named a new chairman as it "streamlines" its board of directors.

Thomas Chambers will take on the role of chairman as the current chair John Roberts steps down alongside two other independent non-executive directors, Pieter Knook and Eva Eisenschimmel.

The announcement comes as the independent supplier prepares to “diversify its business operations and accelerate international growth”.

First Utility chief executive Ian McCaig said: “John, Pieter, and Eva have provided invaluable guidance and expertise during a period of huge growth at First Utility.

“As the business enters a new phase of growth and development, driven by our ambitions to become a multi-product, multi-service international business, we have collectively agreed that it is an appropriate time for a new chairman to take the reins. Thomas’s extensive experience in technology, telecoms and innovative and fast growing businesses will be invaluable to us as we develop and diversify our business, and continue our international expansion plans.”

McCaig added that the firm would not be initiating and IPO in the short term and was streamlining the board given the “uncertain macro-economic and political environment”.

New chairman Thomas Chambers said: “This is a great opportunity to work with one of the most successful, innovative and well-managed challenger brands. I look forward to working with the team on the exciting programme of developments which are planned.”
