Green power needs fairer transmission charges and it’s time for Ofgem to act
The UK’s antiquated transmission charging system works against investment in renewables and vital backup power generation. A workable and fairer solution has been proposed to Ofgem but its implementation is at risk of being delayed yet again, with a key decision due to be made in March. It’s time to stop procrastinating and introduce a system which is fit for the challenges of a 21st-century energy system, says SSE's Paul Smith.
