Ofgem grants Balfour Beatty and Equitix £160m voltage link licence

Ofgem has granted a licence for Balfour Beatty and Equitix to operate a £160 million high voltage link to the Humber Gateway windfarm for the next 20 years.

The Balfour Beatty and Equitix (BBEC) consortium was selected by Ofgem following a tender process that has now completed its third round, delivering a total of £333 million in transmission assets.

The Humber Gateway windfarm consists of 73 wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 219MW.

The transmission assets for the project were constructed by Eon Climate and Renewables UK Humber Wind Ltd.

The consortium partners have previously worked together on a number of large-scale projects, including being selected to become the owner and operator of the £352 million transmission link to the 576MW Gwynt y Mor offshore windfarm in Wales.

The Humber Gateway windfarm got the green light in February 2011, and Ofgem named the preferred bidder to become the offshore transmission owner as Balfour Beatty in September last year.
