Career history: More than 30 years’ experience in infrastructure, including the power and water sectors. Paul has worked all around the world as an engineer, project director and consultant.

What was your first job?

I did a paper round that lasted a day. I was so bad I was late for school. I then had a career change and washed dishes in a local hotel.

What are the best and worst parts of your job?

The best part is that the office is a 20 minute walk from home. Seriously, the best part is helping clients deliver capital assets in a more efficient and cost-effective way. The worst part is knowing that there will always be a form that needs filling in.

What’s your dream job and why?

I would like to be the minister of tourism for the Seychelles – sun, sea, sand and a product that sells itself.

What’s your most treasured possession?

A Specialized S-Works road bike with Shimano Ultegra gears and brakes.

Where did you last go on holiday?

I cycled over the Pyrenees from Biarritz to Perpignan.

In the Hollywood film of your life, who would play you?

Harry Hill would fit the bill in the looky-likey stakes.

Reveal something about yourself not many people know.

I enjoy blues music and play the guitar.

What album is currently in your car CD player?

When I’m not listening to Radio 4, I’m streaming Jake Bugg through Bluetooth to the in-car system.

What’s your favourite film and TV programme?

Favourite film is definitely The Blues Brothers… or The Life of Brian. I’ve recently become addicted to Criminal Minds.

What quote or saying do you most overuse?

“I love it when a plan comes together.”

If you ruled the world, what would you do first?

I would ensure that there were enough mosquito nets available to reduce the prevalence of malaria.

What’s your favourite joke?

I went to the zoo, but there was only one dog in it. It was a shih-tzu.
