PM’s green levies pledge ‘devastating’ energy efficiency industry

The Prime Minister’s pledge to “roll back” social and environmental levies is already “having a completely devastating impact” on the energy efficiency market, according to the Association for the Conservation of Energy (ACE).

In a letter to David Cameron, Andrew Warren, the director at ACE, said the consequences in the market have been “deeply alarming, with devastating losses of business confidence”.

He added that “no new Energy Company Obligation (Eco) related contracts [are] being signed”, and even “committed programmes are being withdrawn”.

Warren wrote that householder will only enjoy lower energy bills “only by continuing with an Eco-type policy”, and that previous energy efficiency schemes has resulted in “massive improvements in the energy efficiency of around half of British Homes”.
