Stornoway Wind Farm approved

Planning consent for the Stornoway Wind Farm project has been approved by the Scottish government today.

The 130MW scheme will be built and operated by Lewis Wind Power, which is a joint venture between EDF Energy and AMEC.

The project had hit a snag when RSPB and Scottish Natural Heritage raised objections to the proposals. However, the developers alleviated their concerns, over Golden Eagles and peatland respectively, by reducing the number of turbines from 42 to 36.
