Moves by the government to cut support for onshore wind and solar energy will hinder UK efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050, the chief executive of the Committee on Climate Change (CCC), has told MPs.
The UK can cut greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050 but only if existing policies are ramped up, including bringing forward the date of the proposed ban on diesel and petrol vehicles, the government’s climate change watchdog has concluded.
