Industry calls for VAT on green products to be axed

Shell launches BEIS-backed smart domestic heating trial

Shell Energy Retail has launched a trial exploring the effect smart thermostats, combined with energy usage insights, have on consumer behaviour. The trial, which has been awarded £300,000 from the government-led Smart Energy Savings Innovations Competition, will see 600 Shell customers using a device that allows them to control their heating and hot water through their smart phone.

Real-time energy savings metering is ‘critical’ for retrofitting

A report by a coalition of industry experts has recommended the creation of a new protocol for measuring energy savings in retrofitted homes in real-time. The Green Finance Institute’s Coalition for the Energy Efficiency of Buildings says a national, standardised way to measure the energy saved by retrofit works is “vital” to unlocking up to £65 billion of investment needed to decarbonise the existing building stock.
