Scottish Water installs first large-scale battery system

Scottish Water has added four vanadium redox flow batteries to its wastewater treatment site in Perth as part of its efforts to reach net zero by 2040. The company said they will enable it to use around 94% of the electricity generated by the 1MW solar array at the plant, including to power electric vehicle rapid charging points.

Thames and SGN team up for biogas installations

Thames has awarded an eight-year contract to SGN to design, build and operate biomethane gas-to-grid facilities at its wastewater treatment works with the first installation due to be completed in March 2022. Gas from anaerobic digestion will be used to heat 3,500 homes in north London.
