The UK gas spot price rose to a five-year high on Monday morning following unplanned outages in the North Sea left the market undersupplied.

Reuters reported the price went as high as 108p/therm after stormy weather shut down Norway’s Nyhamna gas plant and Shell’s Ormen Lange field, which primarily exports to Britain.

That outage exacerbated low supplies as storage levels have dropped over several cold weeks.

The spot power price also rose, to £62.25/Mwh, the highest in over a year.
