Affinity Water sees biggest improvement in developer services

Six companies – Anglian Water, Bournemouth Water, Bristol Water, Portsmouth Water, South East Water and Thames Water – showed a deterioration in their scores for water supply services since Q3.

According to the company performance data on meeting developer services targets, published by Water UK, Dee Valley was the only company to attain a perfect score for water supply in Q4, closely followed by Sutton and East Surrey Water and Southern Water, which both scored 99.5 per cent.

On the sewerage side, four companies – Anglian Water, Welsh Water, South West Water and Yorkshire Water – all scored lower than in Q3.

Southern Water was the only company to achieve a score of 100 per cent for sewerage services, while Severn Trent scored 99.8 per cent and Yorkshire scored 99.7 per cent.

Since the first results, published in July 2015, the industry has seen a consistent increase in delivery against a range of targets, with overall levels of service performance rising from 89 per cent to 98 per cent for water supply and from 94 per cent to 98 per cent for sewerage.

Water UK chief executive Michael Roberts said: “Overall, the latest results on developer services are encouraging, but there is still work left to do to improve our performance.”

The full set of figures cover 15 water supply and nine sewerage performance targets for a range of services including enquiries, quotations, connections, design, construction and adoption of developer laid assets across England and Wales.

In February, members’ group Fair Water Connections urged water firms to overhaul how they measure standards for developer services to reflect what is important to self-lay organisations (SLOs) and the developers they seek to supply.

The organisation claimed there is disconnect between the experience of its members and what is being reported by Water UK on behalf of water firms.
