The water company has launched a tender process to appoint up to four generating companies with proven track records of at least five years in delivering renewable energy solutions.
The power purchase agreement would last up to three decades to allow the scheme to payback on the initial investment.
Anglian Water has also stated that he renewable energy partners must be able to guarantee they do not pay more than the market price for the electricity generated, and that it is able to report the electricity as carbon neutral.
The water company has stated that up to 100 installations could take place under the deal, most of which will be 250KW, although some may be greater than 2GW in size.
Wind and solar will be the initial focus for the renewable energy sources, with each tender offering contracts for each technology type that is split into two lots.
This all forms part of the company’s carbon management plan, which aims to half its 2010 greenhouse gas emission levels by 2035 and to halve the embodied carbon in all new assets built in 2015, compared to those that were built in 2010.
The deadline for applications is 26 May.
