Ann Robinson to join Ofgem’s governing body

Consumer champion Ann Robinson is set to join Ofgem’s governing body, the Gas and Electricity Markets Authority (GEMA), as a non-executive director.

Robinson has been appointed to the role alongside Lynne Embleton who will also join the group in the coming weeks as a non-executive director.

Embleton is currently the chief executive of IAG Cargo and previously served on the board of British Airways as the managing director at Gatwick and as strategy director.

Robinson has experience in energy and consumer policy, and previously worked in the civil service before becoming chief executive of Scope. This was followed by a period as director general of the British Retail Consortium and as the executive chair of Energy Watch.

Robinson has recently worked as a consultant advising organisations on consumer issues, including uSwitch, the Gas Safe Register and charities such as Scope.

Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) secretary Greg Clark, said: “I am delighted to appoint Lynne Embleton and Ann Robinson to the Ofgem board – both have a strong reputation for improving the service consumers receive and effectively advocating for rights on their behalf.”

The appointments come as it was revealed that Martin Cave has been selected as the new chair of Ofgem.

The regulatory body announced in December the current chairman, David Gray, will retire in September this year.
