Armitt: Labour’s price freeze giving investors the ‘jitters’

In an interview with The House magazine, Armitt said the political uncertainty, including that caused by the proposed price freeze which would be implemented if Labour wins the 2015 general election, “gives them jitters”.

He added that the more governments want to adapt policy to reflect public opinion, they need to give the investor “some protection against those changes” in order to ensure they continue to invest.

Armitt also warned that Labour’s planned intervention in the market “doesn’t address the long term problem” in the energy market “unless it acts as a stimulus” for both the government and the energy companies to work together to contain energy prices “as far as possible to a sensible level”.
