BEIS committee to question Helm on cost of energy review

Oxford professor Dieter Helm will appear before the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) Committee on Tuesday to answer questions on his cost of energy review.

The committee will also take evidence from industry stakeholders, including representatives from the Renewable UK, the Committee on Climate Change, the Energy Networks Association and the UK Energy Research Centre.

The independent review, commissioned by the government, examined each element of the electricity supply chain, including generation, transmission, distribution and supply.

Among other things, the review called for the creation of publicly-owned regional system operators and a single economy-wide carbon price.

The committee meeting will see MPs explore Helm’s recommendations and how workable they are within the context of the government’s overall energy and climate change policy.
