Guidance outlining how energy suppliers should deal with customers during the coronavirus pandemic is to be published by the government imminently, Utility Week understands.
The paper is expected to contain information from Citizens Advice as to what will be expected while the virus continues to affect both business and consumers.
Initially the paper was to be published by Citizens Advice but Utility Week understand that it may now come from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).
Sources indicate the paper is to be published imminently, and potentially as soon as this afternoon (18 March).
So far a number of suppliers have released their plans on how they will deal with consumers during the pandemic, with some reassuring customers they will not disconnect those struggling to pay bills due to illness.
Meanwhile in the water sector, companies have been called on to use their powers to protect the vulnerable.
Speaking about how the coronavirus could affect finances for billpayers, Andy White senior policy manager at CCW, said water companies should be “exhausting the wide range of options they have at their disposal” to help anyone impacted by the pandemic.
