The multi-charger hub in London’s Park Lane can provide 50kW charging for 10 vehicles simultaneously, with plans to add another 12 in the coming months. BP said a second site in Westminster is already under construction.
Uber was BP’s first fleet customer to get access to the new hub.
Richard Bartlett, BP’s senior vice president, future mobility & solutions, said: “London anticipates that by 2025 taxis and private hire vehicles will account for 80 per cent of all public charging demand in the city.
“Fast, reliable charging infrastructure in convenient locations is essential to give business and fleet customers the confidence to make the switch to electric. That’s why we’re opening our new hubs at the heart of major cities across the UK and Europe, aiming to keep fleets charged and ready for business – whilst producing zero emissions.”
In March, BP Pulse unveiled plans to double the size of its network in the UK – to 16,000 chargepoints – by 2030. It said there would be a particular emphasis on ultra-fast chargers.
