Bristol Water adds e-learning portal for home schooling

Bristol has produced a collection of online learning resources for schoolchildren that is the largest in the water sector.

The company said more lesson materials will be added over the coming months to help young people learning at home during the third national lockdown.

Home experiments, videos and worksheets spanning science, geography, history and the environment on water-related topics are available for key stage two learners. Separately a careers portal is available for students in year 10 to university learners that offers a summary of types of careers available in the sector.

Sharna Smith who headed up the initiative said the content is mapped around the national curriculum with the aid of teachers and subject experts as well as pupils and graphic designers.

She said the portal is “just the start” of the work the company is undertaking to teach people about where water comes from and why it is worth saving.

Social distancing and restrictions have forced utility companies to halt their educational programmes and school visits, leading to greater focus on digital resources.

Bristol has pledged to work with local organisations including schools, colleges, universities and youth groups during 2021 to help prepare young people for the world of work.
