Bristol Water launches consultation on £100 million Cheddar reservoir

The water company said the £100 million reservoir would meet the future need for water in the area.

Every household in Cheddar and Axbridge will be asked to give
feedback on how the reservoir could work as a local amenity and
recreational facility alongside the existing reservoir. Bristol Water
plans to operate the reservoir in a similar way to the existing
reservoir by making it accessible to the public basis. It said the new
project could offer environmental and recreational benefits to the local
community.

One idea that has been put forward is using one reservoir as a
conservation zone with low levels of public activity, such as walking
and bird watching, with the other being more focused on water sports and higher levels of activity.

Jerry Williams, a spokesman for Bristol Water, said: “We will be
presenting initial plans for the scheme to the local community at local
exhibitions, as well as online. We want to hear people’s views on our
proposals so we can develop the best possible scheme. We encourage all local residents to get involved and have their say.”
