Business Stream has won back the contract to provide water and wastewater services across the Scottish public sector.
The three-year contract, worth around £200 million, covers councils, NHS Scotland, the fire and police services, prisons, universities and colleges and the Scottish government.
Business Stream previously held the contract between 2011 and 2015. The new arrangement, which starts in April, will represent approximately 20 per cent of Business Stream’s revenue.
The company, which took on the customers from Yorkshire Water Business Services in October, said a key focus would be the delivery of initiatives to reduce water use.
Business Stream chief executive, Jo Dow, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have won back the Scottish government public sector framework contract. We have a strong track record of working with the public sector and over the years have developed a suite of value-added services to meet their needs. We are now looking forward to working in partnership with public sector organisations across Scotland, providing our expertise and services to help them save time, money and water.”
A Scottish government spokesperson said: “This is the third time that this contract has been competed. Following a robust evaluation process, Scottish Water Business Stream were identified as offering the best balance of quality and price for the public purse.”
Business Stream is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Scottish Water, with its own board and independent management team. It was formed in 2006 and entered the English market when it opened in 2017, having acquired the non-household customer base of Southern Water.
