CCW, the consumer watchdog for the water sector, has appointed Emma Clancy to replace Tony Smith as its chief executive from next month.
Her CV also includes consumer watchdog Which? and TrustMark as well as experience in consumer protection, public policy and regulation in construction, banking, retail sectors, plus not-for-profit organisations.
Robert Light, chair of CCW, said: “Emma possesses all the qualities we were looking for with a strong track record of leadership and vast consumer and public policy experience. I’m confident she will help us to deliver our bold agenda to ensure water companies deliver outstanding services at a price consumers think is fair.”
Clancy said: “CCW has established itself as a powerful and respected advocate for water customers and I want to build on those strong foundations and get consumers more actively engaged with a utility that we can sometimes take for granted.”
The incoming chief executive is currently chair of the Building Regulations Advisory Committee (BRAC) and has served the committee for over nine years.
She heads up committees providing advice to government, helping to develop the future regulatory framework for buildings addressing sustainability and safety issues.
Clancy will replace Tony Smith who has led the organisation since it was formed in 2005. During that time Smith helped to turnaround the industry’s customer complaints performance and boost consumers’ influence over price reviews and regulatory decisions.
