Centrica has completed the sale of two combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plants to the Czech utility company EPH.
The disposal is part of the British Gas owner’s pivot away from large-scale baseload generation and towards home services, distributed energy and flexible generation.
The group announced the sale of the Langage and South Humber Bank power stations last month for £318 million. The plants in Devon and Lincolnshire respectively have a total capacity of 2.3GW.
EPH already owns the Eggborough and Lynemouth coal-fired plants and is aiming further increase its presence in the UK with the latest additions to its portfolio.
Eggborough is one of the increasingly few coal-fired plants to remain open in Britain and in January secured capacity markets contracts for the coming winter through the year-ahead (T-1) early auction.
The operator, Eggborough Power, applied in June for consent to build three new CCGTs on the site to replace the plant when it eventually closes.
Lynemouth power station is currently being converted to run on biomass after shutting down in late 2015.
