Centrica in talks with BP’s Iain Conn for CEO role

In a statement the UK energy giant said that “it has been, and continues to be, in discussions with Iain about the possibility of him succeeding Sam Laidlaw as chief executive of Centrica”.

The company is scheduled to report on its interim financial results next Thursday (31 July), with speculation mounting that the company may take the opportunity to announce new leaders.

The British Gas parent company has seen a flurry of high profile departures over recent weeks – including finance director Nick Luff and downstream managing director Chris Weston – as it faces growing political scrutiny and a potential forced restructuring following the upcoming market competition probe.

Centrica said Laidlaw remains “firmly focused” on leading the company until his successor is in place.
