Centrica signs deal with Push Energy to build solar portfolio

Centrica Business Solutions has signed a framework agreement with renewable developer Push Energy to build a series of solar farms over the coming years.

The deal forms part of its plans to create a 900MW portfolio of grid-scale solar and battery storage assets in the UK by 2026, for which it established a dedicated team called Centrica Energy Assets in October last year.

Centrica Energy Assets will work Push to take projects from site identification through to commercial operation, with Push providing turnkey engineering, procurement and construction for the solar farms.

Bill Rees, director of Centrica Energy Assets, said, “This is an important relationship and a big step towards our aim to develop, build, manage and optimise a 900MW portfolio of Centrica-owned solar and battery projects, that will help provide our customers with clean energy.”

Push Energy has previously developed 350MW of grid-scale and rooftop solar generation. Its chief commercial officer Amit Oza said: “Push is committed to helping the UK reach net zero by 2050, by developing and constructing sustainable solar farms that give back to the local community. Working with Centrica is an excellent opportunity which will help us accelerate this process.”
