Centrica to roll out Hive in Ireland

The product will be offered through Centrica’s Irish subsidiary Bord Gais Energy in the Republic Of Ireland, although householders do not have to be a customer of the supplier to use Hive.

Centrica said there are 1.4 million homes in Ireland being heated by gas central heating who could potentially use the product.

Bord Gáis Energy chief executive Eddy Collier said: “This is another example of leveraging the Centrica group’s strengths for the benefit of our customers everywhere.”

Centrica said more than 200,000 households in the UK are now using Hive, with 60 percent of those saying they use Hive at least once a day last winter.

In August Centrica announced a billion pound strategy turnaround with a move away from centralised energy and a new focus on investment in its domestic and technological innovation businesses.

In July it announced a £500 million investment over the next five years in its Connected Homes business to build on the success of the honeycomb and Hive products.
