Charles Hendry sacked as ex-further education minister John Hayes picks up energy brief

Hayes, who represents South Holland and the Deepings, has held shadow ministerial and committee roles in transport, local government and agriculture as well as education. There is little evidence of direct experience in energy, save that of opposing wind turbines in his constituency.

A round-up of views in FE Week from the further education sector Hayes is leaving behind paints a picture of a committed and passionate minister who was widely respected.

Hendry returns to the back benches.

Update: Lord Marland has left the Department of Energy and Climate Change (Decc) as the government reshuffle continues. The former undersecretary of state, who represented Decc in the House of Lords as well as being responsible for nuclear safety and legacy, efficiency and departmental transparency, has moved to the department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS).
