China roars ahead in smart grid

That’s the view from Pike Research. The firm said there were many smaller and medium-sized smart grid projects announced in the United States, but these involved relatively small volumes compared to the millions of meters shipped in previous quarters of 2011.

In the UK the company also highlighted British Gas’s decision to halt further installations of smart meters as having some impact on numbers. The firm should hear soon from government whether it will be allowed to keep the meters it has deployed ahead of time on the wall. The next round of smart meter consultations, covering sales, marketing and installation and an updated impact assessment, is due imminently from the department of energy and climate change.
