Chris Weston named as British Gas boss

Weston is set to replace Phil Bentley, whose surprise exit after six years at the helm was revealed last month.

Centrica issued a statement to the Stock Exchange this morning following press reports of Weston’s imminent appointment.

It said: “It is expected that a proposal that Chris Weston will succeed Phil Bentley as the director responsible for British Gas as part of the succession planning and the strategic evolution of the company will be presented to the Board of the Company and, if approved, will be announced with the company’s preliminary results on 27 February 2013.”

Before becoming CEO of Centrica’s US gas retail arm Direct Energy in 2009, Weston held managing director positions at British Gas Services and British Gas Business.

He has previously worked for Cable and Wireless and served in the Royal Horse Artillery.
