CIWEM chief executive steps down

Hendley, who joined the CIWEM Trustee board in 2010, has served two spells leading the organisation, the first as interim chief executive after the sudden death of Nick Reeves in July 2013, and the second on a permanent basis since May last year.

CIWEM chair Jim Oatridge thanked Hendley for his “tireless efforts” throughout his time in post and over the last six years. During this time CIWEM has undertaken a major construction project to complete its offices, 106-109 Saffron Hill, which now provide a home for the Executive and CIWEM Venue room rentals.

Janet Reeves, widow of former chief executive Nick Reeves, also paid tribute to Hendley, saying: “Sadly when Nick passed away suddenly, CIWEM was left in the throes of moving offices to Saffron Hill. Lots of negotiations were at crucial stages, so staff and board members were left with difficult decisions to be made.

“Nigel Hendley, together with senior staff and board members, carried forward the relocation. I feel that Nick would have been happy that all has gone ahead. I would like to take this opportunity to wish Terry Fuller a very successful career in being the new CEO of CIWEM.”

Hendley said: “It has been a great honour for me to lead CIWEM Executive through the difficult but very exciting period of construction and occupation of the new building at Saffron Hill, and latterly through reconstruction of the organisation around new systems, processes and organisational culture.

“While there is work to complete through 2016, CIWEM has achieved immense progress in the last two years. Terry Fuller is taking over as chief executive, with Shirel Stedman as Managing Director. They have a great opportunity to take CIWEM to the next level and I wish them every success in their new roles.”

Terry Fuller joins CIWEM following a career spanning nearly 30 years in the water and environmental sector. His most recent role was at Jacobs, where for the last four years he was Business Development Manager responsible for major public and private sector clients and business partnerships. He is a Chartered Engineer with a first class honours degree in Civil Engineering, and a past chair of CIWEM’s Rivers and Coastal Group.
