Clegg confirms review for green levies

The Liberal Democrat leader told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme the government is examining whether the environmental and social policies can be delivered in a “more cost effective way”.

Prime minister David Cameron made the surprise announcement during yesterday’s weekly question session in Westminster, and Clegg said “It wasn’t something that I was fully expecting and it’s not something I fully agree with”.

Clegg added that the coalition government’s environmental goals remain “clear and stable”, but he did concede that the green and social levies on energy bills may be funded from taxes in the future.
