Co-op raises prices for new customers

The independent supplier is raising the prices it offers to new customers by 8.5 per cent for gas and 9.0 per cent for power, taking the average annual dual fuel bill to £1,258. Meanwhile, it is sticking to a pledge to freeze prices for loyal customers until 15 April.

In the opposite of predatory pricing, the company will charge new recruits around £100 more than customers signed up before today.

The company said the hike was needed to meet the rising costs of transporting energy.
