Construction complete at Teesside offshore windfarm

All 27 turbines at the 62MW site, which is owned jointly by EDF Energy and EDF Energies Nouvelles and managed by EDF Energy Renewables, have been installed, have been installed and 13 are already generating electricity.

Construction began at the site in February 2012 and the project is EDF Energy Renewables first UK offshore windfarm.

Christian Egal, chief executive at EDF Energy Renewables, said: “This marks an important moment for the company and we are now working towards getting the windfarm becoming fully operational in the near future.”

He added: “Developments like this were intended as pioneering projects. Experience gained here builds our credentials as a major player in wind energy and it will be invaluable in the development of other offshore windfarms.”

The company is also currently involved in pre-planning application consultation on a proposed offshore windfarm, Navitus Bay, near the Isle of Wight, in a joint venture with Eneco.
