Consultation omissions behind Eon’s Rampion windfarm withdrawal

The utility submitted plans to the Planning Inspectorate for the 175 turbine array in the English Channel on 14 December, but withdrew the development consent order after discovering it had failed to consult councils in Sevenoaks and Surrey.

Updated proposals are expected to be resubmitted to the Planning Inspectorate next month following the completion of the additional consultations.

A spokesperson for Eon said: “There are some local authorities quite some considerable distance away but we are required to consult them but they had been missed out from the original application, so we decided the best thing to do was to withdraw the application.

“We remain completely committed to the project, but wish to take extra time now to maintain our comprehensive approach to consultation.”
