Customer concern over energy bills drops to lowest level since 2012

At the same time the latest quarterly public attitudes survey from Department of Energy and Climate Change (Decc) shows that trust in energy providers is steady at its highest level since the survey began.

Decc also found that renewables continue to receive high levels of support, with more than three quarters (76 per cent) of UK adults supporting the use of renewable energy to generate electricity, fuel and heat.

Nuclear energy support remains reasonably stable with 39 per cent of the public supporting its use, while just 24 per cent of people said they agree with shale gas extraction.

Three quarters (74 per cent) of people give a lot or a fair amount of thought to saving energy in their home. However, 50 per cent of people admit to leaving the heating on when they are not in the house, compared with 41 per cent in September 2014.

Decc started the tracking survey in 2012 to understand and monitor public attitudes to the department’s main business priorities.

The most recent data was collected between 10 December 2014 and 8 January 2015, using face-to-face interviews with a representative sample of 2,119 households in the UK.
