Decc announces Stephen Lovegrove as new permanent secretary

Lovegrove is expected to take up his new post on 4 February and replaces Moira Wallace who left Decc at the end of October last year.

Ed Davey welcomed Lovegrove’s appointment, saying: “Stephen and I worked together for nearly two years when I was a Minister at BIS, not least on the reform of Royal Mail, so I know he will be a huge asset to Decc.”

Commenting on his new position, Lovegrove said: “It is a great honour to be given the opportunity to lead the department at such an important time for Britain’s energy and climate change policy.”

The new appointment comes after David Kennedy, the chairman of the Climate Change Committee, was reportedly vetoed by the Prime Minister, despite being nominated by Davey.
