Didcot A demolition contractors appointed

The announcement comes as the technical decommissioning of the coal and oil plant comes to a close.

The major activity on the site, such as the demolition of the cooling towers, is not expected to take place until 2014.

Up to 200 people are expected to be employed during the demolition, which will take place over the next three years.

Mark Coleman, managing director of Coleman & Company, said: “The demolition of Didcot A power station will require high levels of safety management along with careful planning and coordination.”

He added: “We will be engaging with the surrounding businesses and local community, which I am sure will play a major part in the successful conclusion of this part of Didcot A’s story.”
