Dong Energy launches £9.3 million community fund

The East Coast Community Fund is part of the local engagement programme for the company’s Hornsea Project One and Race Bank offshore wind farms.

Around £390,000 of grants will be made available to support local community and environmental projects each year for the next two decades.

A further £75,000 per year will be ring-fenced for a skills fund supporting education and training schemes focused on science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

Dong’s UK chairman Brent Cheshire said: “Dong Energy is committed to supporting the local areas and communities where we operate and so I’m delighted this fund is now open to applications.

“We are proud of our place in this part of the country and we recently announced plans for a multi-million pound investment in Grimsby to create the UK’s largest offshore wind operations and maintenance hub. This fund is another way we can make a difference locally.”

The fund will be managed by the charity GrantScape. Community groups, charities and other eligible organisations will be able to apply for grants of between £1,000 and £50,000.
