Ecotricity partners with Sustainable Restaurant Association

Ecotricity has partnered with the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA) to encourage the food service industry to “make smart decisions” about how it powers its businesses.

The partnership is part of an ongoing drive for the industry to work more sustainably. It kicked off yesterday (26 November) with a roundtable event where Ecotricity discussed green energy with SRA members.

Both organisations will work to develop a range of resources to help businesses make an “informed decision” about switching their energy supply in a bid to lower their carbon footprint.

Roughly a quarter of all man-made greenhouse gas emissions, more than all of the world’s transport combined, comes from the food we eat, according to the green supplier.

It added that with a fifth of all meals eaten out of the home, the restaurant industry has a “huge role” to play in combating climate change.

Juliane Caillouette-Noble, development director of the SRA, said: “The UK food service sector emits more greenhouse gases than Costa Rica. So, we are really excited to be collaborating with Ecotricity to provide our members with clear, practical, timely and relevant information to help them make the right decisions about their energy supply.”

Dale Vince, Ecotricity founder, added: “We are pleased to be working with the SRA and look forward to helping restaurants across the country switch to green energy and help them on their journey to making this a greener Britain.”

Ecotricity also partnered with the Notting Hill Carnival over the August Bank Holiday weekend in a bid to endorse its message of sustainability.

Formerly-named the Renewable Energy Company, Ecotricity was founded by Vince in the 1990s and was purportedly the first company in the world to offer green electricity to customers.
