The Scottish project receieved consent in 2011 but is in the process of applying to use a new turbine design which could increase the windfarm’s capacity to 200MW, making it one of the largest onshore developments in Scotland.
EDF Energy Renewables’ wind power portfolio already includes 700MW of capacity in operation or under construction. And EDF Energy chief executive Vincent de Rivaz said the latest commitment to renewables development underlines the company’s commitment to low carbon generation.
“Today’s announcement, just weeks before the international conference on climate change in Paris, confirms EDF Energy’s commitment to lead in UK investment in low carbon electricity. That means investment in wind and nuclear electricity generation with an increasing focus on the development of Scottish renewables,” De Rivaz said.
EDF Energy Renewables intends to offer the local community a package worth nearly £1 million a year.
