EDF takes on Zog customers

EDF has become the Supplier of Last Resort (SoLR) for the third time in 2021, after taking on the customers of Zog Energy.

Absorbing the 11,700 customers of Zog means EDF has taken on almost 600,000 accounts through the SoLR process this year. It previously protected the customers of Green Network Energy and Utility Point.

Zog exited the market on Wednesday (1 December), becoming the 27th energy retailer to exit via the SoLR process so far this year.

Philippe Commaret, managing director for EDF’s Customers business, said: “We are very pleased that we can step in once more to support customers impacted by these most recent supplier failures. Customers of Zog Energy Limited will understandably be concerned that their existing supplier has ceased trading, but I would like to reassure them that, with EDF, they are getting a reliable supplier who provide excellent service and a guaranteed, fair rate throughout winter.”

He added that EDF would be working closely with Zog’s administrators to ensure there is “a smooth transition for all customers as quickly as possible”.

On exiting the market, Zog’s founders said they had unable to secure the gas hedges previously agreed with gas shipper CNG.
