EDF’s gas-fired power station disrupted by protestors

The station is currently in a commissioning phase and the first unit is expected to be fully operational by the end of the year.

The group is protesting against the government’s planned construction
of up to 20 new gas-fired power stations, of which West Burton is the
first. It claims the new plants will leave the UK dependent on highly
polluting and increasingly expensive fossil fuels for decades.

EDF said energy supplies would not be affected. Gordon Bell, EDF’s
media manager said: “The protest will not affect supplies to energy
users in the area or to the national grid. Generation at the adjacent
coal station is unaffected.”
