The electricity distribution network launched its ‘Be prepared’ campaign this week after independent research found that 84 per cent of its customers did not know who to contact during a power cut.
Fifty seven per cent also wrongly believed they should call their electricity supplier in the event of a power cut.
Electricity North West will inform its five million consumers who to contact during a power cut, following a similar initiative taken by Northern Powergrid last month.
The company is also encouraging customers to check on elderly or sick neighbours and sign-up to its priority service register for any extra support.
“We’re encouraging people to be prepared, so that if there is a power cut they know who to contact and how to contact us, which will help us restore power more quickly,” said Electricity North West external communications manager Jonny Morgan.
