Elexon to expel another supplier from BSC

Elexon has decided to expel business-only energy supplier MA Energy from the Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC) subject to approval by Ofgem.

The London-based company, which serves around 3,300 customers, has been listed as being in level two credit default since 28 September.

In a circular published this week, Elexon said that due to the supplier failing to sufficiently reduce its credit cover percentage over a period of two working days, the company will be expelled from BSC.

Several other expulsions have been announced over the last few weeks, most recently of AM Power, which supplies around 13,400 customers.

The expulsion of Whoop Energy (under 5,000 customers) was announced alongside that of Symbio, which has since ceased trading.

Whoop is still operating and Utility Week has contacted Elexon for an update on its situation but no response was received at the time of writing.

Avro Energy, which became the sector’s largest failure to date last month, was also expelled, as was Delta Gas and Power, which is still going.

Elsewhere, Omni Energy, which recently warned it was “highly likely” to cease trading, is currently listed as being in credit default.
