Energy and water firms urge PM for climate action

WWF-UK co-ordinated the letter to David Cameron, which is calling for “decisive action” to tackle climate change and to build a low carbon economy, and it’s backed up companies including Dong Energy, Eon, First Utility, Good Energy, National Grid, Ovo Energy, SSE, Thames Water, Vattenfall, and Wessex Water.

The letter to David Cameron calls on him to: seek a “strong climate deal” in Paris which limits temperature rises to below 2°C; set an “ambitious 5th carbon budget” to drive emissions reductions; and to establish a long-term framework for investment in the low-carbon economy.

WWF UK chief executive David Nussbaum said: “As we approach international climate talks, Britain should be a global champion for change, but a lack of consistent long-term policies sends a confusing message to business and undermines our attractiveness to investors.

“The prime minister should send a clear message that the only way forward is a green economy, and support forward-looking firms that want to build a clean economy.”
