Energy bosses called to face MPs

The Energy and Climate Change Committee (ECCC) has today invited the bosses of the major companies, along with other smaller suppliers to appear before parliament on Tuesday 29 October.

Sir Robert Smith MP, acting chairman of the committee, said: “The committee has today decided to call in the energy bosses in the context of the latest wave of price increases.”

The MPs will “explore a range of issues”, including the reasons and justification behind recent energy price rises; the difference of pricing policies between energy suppliers; and how the transparency of energy company profits can be improved.

The call comes after SSE, British Gas, Npower and Co-operative Energy have all announced winter price rises.
