Energy suppliers to underline back-billing commitments

At an event hosted by Energy UK, energy suppliers will commit to follow new voluntary standards.

These mean where a micro-business customer has taken all reasonable steps to avoid a back-bill, suppliers will limit any back-bill to three years for electricity bills and four to five years for a gas bill.

The suppliers will also reiterate their commitment to the Energy UK code of practice for accurate bills for domestic customers, which means where the supplier is at fault, customers will not be billed for energy used over more than 12 months previously.

An Energy UK spokesperson said: “Billing is an area that is key to the ‘trust agenda’ and accurate bills are vital if the industry is to promote and develop trust as we plan to.”
