Eon begins Rampion onshore cable route survey

The energy company said the survey will allow it plan the route of the cable from Brooklands Pleasure Park to the proposed substation site in Twineham in more detail, whilst refining the width of the cable route.

The work will also provide information on the ground conditions, such as soil depths, and the identification of archaeologically sensitive areas.

This data will then be used to advise on the best materials and construction methods when the cable comes to be laid.

Chris Tomlinson, Eon development manager for the project, said: “We’re grateful for the interest the local community has shown in the project and we’re keen to keep them updated on how the work is developing.”

The work is due to begin at the end of the month and is scheduled to take up to eight weeks.

If built, the Rampion offshore windfarm, which is planned off the Sussex coast, could have up to 175 turbines and a capacity of 700MW.

A final decision on whether consent for the windfarm will be granted will be made in the summer of 2014.
