Eon Energy has become the latest supplier to furlough staff due to coronavirus, with a total of 4,000 being placed on paid leave of absence.
The company has furloughed 3,000 of its 7,500-staff and 1,000 of the 5,500 Npower workers acquired as part of a wider asset swap with Innogy’s parent company RWE.
Under the government scheme staff will be paid 80 per cent of their salary, up to £2,500 a month.
A spokesperson from Eon said affected staff include a range of field/metering technicians as well as customer operations and support staff across both its residential and business operations.
“We are making sure no one loses out if they are off work in a furlough situation by guaranteeing a top-up to 100 per cent of salaries during the current period,” they added.
Ovo Energy announced last week that it was placing more than a third of its 10,000-strong workforce (3,400) on furlough.
