Eon introduces fixed annual tariff

Energy giant Eon has launched a fixed annual tariff to help customers “personalise” their bills.

The Eon “secure bill” will fix an energy price based on a customer’s previous year’s energy use, giving “complete reassurance” their bill will not change.

Customers signing up to the tariff will have to agree to being contacted about having a smart meter fitted, and where eligible, have one installed.

Michael Lewis, chief executive of Eon said the secure bill marks a “significant shift” towards making energy more personal.

He added: “Unlike other fixed term tariffs which are available today, secure bill means customers’ payments won’t change during the year, regardless of how much energy they use.

“This gives customers complete reassurance about how much they’ll pay each month for 12 months and the ability to accurately budget for their energy.

“And we’re installing smart meters for secure bill customers so they don’t lose sight of how much energy they’re using throughout the year. If customers cut their energy use during the year, this will be reflected in next year’s annual quote.”

Last week it was announced that Eon had overtaken SSE in the big six league table to become the second largest domestic energy supplier in Britain.

The German-owned company said it was the only large player in the UK with business to consumer (B2C) customer gains over last 12 months, with 50,000 more accounts than last year.
